A Cotswold Cottage Owner’s Visit to Clarkson’s The Farmer’s Dog Pub

As a holiday cottage owner in the beautiful village of Broadway, I’m always on the lookout for great local spots to recommend to my guests many having already been having already visited Diddly Squat Farm Shop, following the very successful Clarkson's Farm series on Amazon along with Kaleb Cooper, Lisa Hogan, Charlie Ireland and of course Gerald Cooper

After so many good reports and watching the Amazon series it was nice to see what The Farmer’s Dog experience was offering to help British farms with only selling British produced goods.

So, on a Sunday lunchtime, decided to take a little trip over to Burford to visit Jeremy Clarkson’s latest venture — The Farmer’s Dog pub.

Nestled in the Oxfordshire countryside near Burford OX18 4HJ, The Farmer’s Dog is exactly what you’d expect from Jeremy Clarkson—rustic, no-nonsense, and packed with character. The interior is warm and welcoming, with roaring fires and wooden beams, while the outdoor area offers stunning views of the surrounding farmland.

Arriving just after 11.15am already the car park was filling up but with the help of the very friendly car park attendants, they were supervising the arriving cars to the remaining spaces.

Very advisable to book in advance, so having booked a table you can from The Farmer's Dog website, details below.

Sundays it is a lunchtime buffet with starters and puddings also available although they do keep a few tables available for walk ins if they are able to assist.

During the week days there are seasonal changeable menus with great selection of starters, main course and puddings.

The menu champions local, farm-to-table ingredients, including produce from Diddly Squat itself,

With Hawkstone Lager, Hawkstone Cider and Hawkstone Black (stout)— the stout absolutely hit the spot! They also have a very low alcohol Hawkstone Spa (0.03%)

in the winter months a Mulled Cider, which was nice and warming, a very comprehensive drinks menu and all British produced.

The atmosphere was lively, filled with a mix of locals, visitors, and die-hard Jeremy Clarkson fans.

The staff were very friendly, and it’s clear the pub is already becoming a popular stop for those exploring the Cotswolds. On Mondays they are encouraging the locals and Farmers to come in and socialise and enjoy a drink together, a wonderful idea!

For clients who love good locally produced food, a relaxed countryside setting, and a little bit of TV-famous charm, The Farmer’s Dog andDiddly Squat Farm Shop make for a fantastic day out. Just be sure to arrive early at the farm shop—parking fills up fast, and those infamous milk and honey products don’t stay on the shelves for long! Another tip is if you are planning to visit both places on the same day…. stick to the main roads, it is quicker as the single track roads are very narrow...

Back in Broadway, I can’t help but feel lucky to have such great destinations nearby, from historic villages to quirky celebrity-owned spots. If you’re staying in one of our cottages:
